WHAT YOU WILL SEE
- The Temple of Zeus, which was built during the period of 470-456 B.C., and serves as an exemplary model of the Doric order.
- The Temple of Hera, also known as the Heraion, where many offerings were kept, among them the famous statue of Hermes by Praxiteles.
- The Stadium and its entrance, which was reserved only for officials and athletes. The stadium of Olympia had a capacity of 45,000 spectators.
- The Prytaneion, one of the oldest and most important buildings in Olympia, as it was the center of administrative and political life of the sanctuary and the headquarters for the administration of the Olympic Games. Inside the Prytaneion, the sacred fire burned on the altar of the goddess Hestia.
- The Gymnasium, where athletes would train.
- The Workshop of Phidias, where the famous Athenian sculptor supervised the construction of the chryselephantine statue of the god Zeus.
- The Zanes, the bronze statues dedicated to the god Zeus, located just before the entrance to the Stadium.
- The Stoa of Echo, or Painted Stoa, named after the paintings that adorned it. Poetry and music contests were held there.
- The Nymphaeum, also known as the Exedra of Herodes Atticus, which served as an aqueduct during the Roman period, and thanks to it, water reached the Stadium.
