A TAXI AND A SONG

All of us more or less love music. Each song can create a multitude of emotions for us, such as sadness, joy, anger. For many, music is a way of expression, defining it as a divine gift given to humans.

In fact it is a means of storing memories and feelings, a means capable of taking us mentally to beautiful places, to familiar destinations. How many musical melodies awaken our memories and make us feel nostalgic for various moments and situations in our lives. But there are also those pieces of music that do not remind us of old thoughts, on the contrary they create a desire to live new experiences.

Even here, therefore, there could not be an important place for our favorite means of transport. In particular, several musical pieces have been written for the taxi, which of course cover any taste. We singled out 8, from the many options we had, 8 songs with wonderful melodies and special lyrics, different from each other in order to cover any taste.

  1. First in the series is a favorite artistic song by Costas Makedonas, “the taxi”, a beloved choice that leaves you no room to not feel nostalgic, listening to it. <{{{wpml_tag_1}}}>. It was released in 2000 with the album “The Light of Love”.
  1. Stamatis Kraunakis, Eleonora Zouganelis – “Tarifas”. A wonderful collaboration between the two artists, relatively recent, gives us these simple, but at the same time beautiful lyrics with which many lovers could identify. The first impression it leaves with its title, of course, may trouble someone, but listening to it will reward them, as these beautiful lyrics are accompanied by a wonderful melody. <{{{wpml_tag_1}}}>
  1. Glykeria – Melina Aslanidou – “Life drives a taxi”. It was released in 2006 with the album “Rain of stars” and its lyrics could not describe reality in a better way. <{{{wpml_tag_1}}}> .
  1. Nikos Oikonomopoulos – “Nobody died from love”. Of course, the taxi is not mentioned in the title of this particular song, but after the great success it has presented, its lyrics are known to everyone. This is another song that talks about separation, a strong ballad for slightly heavier situations, as it obviously ranges in a slightly more intense style <{{{wpml_tag_1}}}> .
  1. Nikos Makropoulos – “Your Taxi”. A considerably lighter selection with decidedly lighter lyrics. In this particular piece of music, someone jokingly of course would say the common phrase that we fell in love listening to it. Obviously, it is not just about those who are in love and deeply hurt, those who feel that they identify with this interpretation, but also about those who are indignant, angry and determined. <{{{wpml_tag_1}}}> .
  1. Noticeably changing style and category for the most sophisticated, who love foreign old music, “Taxi” by Harry Chapin is a wonderful classic song. Many say that the song in question is one of the favorites of the 1970s, and listening to it feels like reading a story or watching a movie, Harry Chapin is so passionate in his performance. Characterizing his musical art, it is one of the artist’s favorite and best-known songs. <{{{wpml_tag_1}}}>
  1. Then, “A rainy taxi” by Filippo Pliatsikas, released in 2002, with the album also called “A rainy taxi”, as the artist’s first personal record. An artful song, especially melancholic, of course strongly based on the style we are used to by Pyx Lax, with lyrics and music by Filippos Pliatsikas. <{{{wpml_tag_1}}}> .
  1. Changing the style again, for the end we left a familiar folk piece by Stratos Dionysios “The taxi driver”, although it is certainly the first song that someone would think of when reading the title of the article, as it is a piece of music inextricably linked to taxi drivers . Also, several taxi drivers claim that listening to it, regardless of whether it reminds them of some romantic disappointment, they feel nostalgia and emotion. <{{{wpml_tag_1}}}>. It was released in 1986, with lyricist Vassilis Papadopoulos, who claims that the lyrics were inspired by a love disappointment, i.e. it is an actual story, something that does not surprise us when it comes to such a strong and unsurpassed piece of music. A track, which while it starts dynamically accompanied by the special interpretation of Stratos Dionysios, then seems to lower the intensity and become particularly melodic.

It’s reasonable to wonder what the above pieces could have in common and who would put them all together on a list, since they are so noticeably different from each other. The truth is that all the 8 pieces we have chosen are based on romantic disappointments and are quite sad, melancholic and travelogue.

These are stories of people, who mostly feel the need to be held by something or someone, even a stranger, in order to gain strength, feeling themselves deeply hurt by an unrequited love or after a breakup. A typical example is the aforementioned verse performed by Stratos Dionysiou in the tracks “The Taxi Driver” <{{{wpml_tag_1}}}>.This verse reminds us of the classic image of the taxi driver that most of us have in our minds and many times we joke by characterizing him as a psychologist. But this is a joke based on reality. Perhaps it is based on the need some feel to share something personal with someone they will likely never see again. This is why some people even claim that they confided an incident to a taxi driver and not to a friend of theirs, because they thought that he would not judge them and would not ask them afterwards what happened.

How many drivers could witness these kinds of everyday stories, from people in love, disappointed, hurt and how many could also tell us about an extreme incident they have experienced. From intense dialogues and arguments to crying, yelling, incidents with drunks, maybe even some funny situations or even tragic ones like those they would have to deal with a more demanding client, who asked to watch his or her partner.

Finally, perhaps one of us could literally identify with the above pieces, having been in a similar position, the amorous and hurt customer and having taken advantage of his time in the taxi, recounting his pain to the driver. But who would admit such a thing…
